I have been asked a lot about the internet and mobile coverage of the rural and remote areas. With the national roll out of NBN and other government initiatives it is important to position ourselves on the front foot in order to respond to these technological changes and better service our rural and remote family.
Mobile phone services are available in urban areas, many regional areas, and along national and regional highways. Mobile phone services currently reach 99 per cent of the Australian population. Through the Mobile Black Spot Programme The Australian Government is improving mobile phone coverage and competition in regional and remote Australia. This involves a commitment of $160 million to deliver new or improved mobile base stations to further improve mobile coverage. More information on this campaign can be found at communications.gov.au
